TRIP HIGHLIGHTS

  • Djemaa el Fna

  • Koutoubia Mosque

  • Ben Youssef Madrasa

  • Almoravid Koubba

  • Museum of Marrakech

  • Tour the souks

  • Ideal orientation tour

On this privately guided walking tour we discover some of the popular attractions of Marrakech Medina, an ancient walled city renowned for its architecture and colourful open-air markets.

At Place Ben Youssef we visit the Museum of Marrakech, housed in the Dar Menebhi Palace, built at the end of the 19th century by Mehdi Menebhi. In this area we also have the chance to visit the 14th century Islamic college - Ben Youssef Madrasa, regarded as the largest Madrasa in Morocco. Its prayer hall and courtyards are decorated in beautiful tiles and carved wood. Close by is the Almoravid Koubba, said to be the oldest building in Marrakech, dating from the 12th century.

In the Djemaa el Fna, a huge public square and market place in the heart of Marrakech medina, we learn about its fascinating history. Acrobats and jugglers, storytellers, snake-charmers, beggars, boxers, musicians, fresh juice and food sellers all compete for your attention - and a few dirhams’ in the process. It is easy to spend several hours wandering the square, sipping mint tea and savouring this unique stage. The heartbeat of Marrakech is undoubtedly the souks or markets of the medina. Our guide will navigate us through the honeycomb of connecting streets.
