TOUBKAL
NATIONAL PARK

A Day Exploring the Imlil Valley in the Shadow of Mount Toubkal

TRIP HIGHLIGHTS

  • Views of Jebel Toubkal

  • Fertile Mizzane valley

  • Colourful Asni market

  • Explore Imlil village

  • Walk or drive to Aremd

  • Authentic Berber lunch

  • Chance to visit a real
    Berber village

We travel from the walls of the ‘Red City’ up into the high valleys of the High Atlas Mountains and Toubkal National Park. Here in the shadow of Mt Toubkal, we experience the mixture of ancient Berber lifestyles and agriculture juxtaposed with a busy modern trekking centre.

En route to the Atlas you will pass through the busy little town of Asni which is a buzz of activity as local Berbers sell and buy produce and goods. The final stretch of the journey to Imlil twists and turns up through the fertile Mizzane Valley towards Imlil which is the busy trekking centre for the High Atlas. Once in Imlil you’ll meet-up with our local guide and discuss your itinerary for the day.

We recommend a lovely walk (or mule ride) from Imlil to the village of Aremd (approx. 1 hour 30 minutes walking each way via two different routes). Alternatively, you can continue to Aremd by 4×4 (15 minute drive) and walk back to Imlil, or drive both ways. Lunch is a leisurely local affair, taken in Dar Assarou, a typical Berber-style village guesthouse, enjoying a home-cooked three course meal of Moroccan salad, couscous with lamb or perhaps a tasty vegetable tagine, fresh seasonal fruits, and tea. After lunch you have time to discover more of the village and gaze at the views of Jebel Toubkal which dominate the horizon before heading back to Marrakech.
